In this video, I encounter police officers conducting a traffic stop on two Hispanic men. As I’m filming the interaction, I repeatedly remind the men that they have the legal right to revoke consent for the officers to search their vehicle.
I cite court cases like Houston v. Hill to educate them that by clearly stating “I revoke consent,” the officers must stop searching if they don’t have probable cause. At one point, I provide resources like my “Delete Lawz” website for the men to learn more about asserting their rights during police encounters.
You’ll hear me get somewhat heated with the officers as I assert the men’s constitutional rights and criticize things like aggressive patdowns and the use of zipties/handcuffs. However, my main goal is to empower these men to understand and exercise their right to revoke consent to a vehicle search.
While the language gets a bit profane at times, this video provides an educational example of how to firmly but respectfully invoke your 4th amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches during a traffic stop. Know your rights and always revoke consent if you don’t want your vehicle searched!
