In this video, I roll up on a group of cops huddled in a Huntington Beach parking lot, and just like clockwork, as soon as the camera comes on, they scatter like cockroaches. I’m out here conducting a First Amendment audit, trying to have a real conversation about the huge gap between the police and citizens. But as soon as I bring up “torture cuffs” and question their policies, they’re quick to end the conversation.
I wasn’t rude. I wasn’t confrontational. All I wanted was to ask these cops why 50% of people don’t trust them anymore, and instead of engaging in dialogue, they shut down. Why does it seem like every time we ask real questions about police accountability, they run?
This interaction is just another example of how police avoid transparency when the public starts asking tough questions. Watch as I try to bridge the gap between citizens and law enforcement, only for the cops to brush me off and drive away. Let me know in the comments if you think this kind of behavior from the police is justified, or if these “cop-roaches” just don’t want to be held accountable.
