Cops Caught Disabling or Covering Surveillance Cameras | Is that Legal?

I came across some recent footage of police officers covering, concealing, or otherwise redirecting, a home’s surveillance cameras. When this hit the interwebs, it of course immediately sparked discussion. Police officers defended the footage, claiming officer safety reasons to do this, with some claiming that they always do this as a matter of policy. Is this legal? Is this a Fourth Amendment violation? Is it a First Amendment violation? Is this a crime?

  1. Im a IT guy and Installed a Ubiquiti camera system. Okay that said I can talk through several cameras and they record audio and video 24/7 NO subscription ever. Always make sure you have overlapping fields of view on camera. Don’t leave Exposed wires, install electrical conduit if needed.
I have signs in my yard that say if you enter the property you agree to be audio and video recorded.
On my same camera system I installed smart flood lights that are paired to my camera and motion activated by every entrance door.
I also make sure to have a Private property, no trespassing sign by each entry door and they are purple too since it’s DNR colors but I bought those because they stand out more!
Also if you live in city, urban, apartment or countryside make sure you know the laws for recording audio and check your state wire tapping laws for consent party law.
And KEEP back ups of videos never give the police your hard drive or equipment only a Copy of the video!

  2. If it is for a tactical advantage to protect the officers … why take the time to glove up?

Furthermore, if there is a danger why take the time to gently rotate the camera and not destroy it as quickly as possible, afterall you might be shot..

All lies, cops just being shady. Probably going to rob an informant like in Training Day, lol!

  3. Poor cops would have to get real creative and some ladders to take mine out! Got some so high up in trees idk how the previous owners got em up there. I inherited 10 cameras hard wired when I bought my house and bought another 10 so overkill obviously but I like to watch my shit. 😂

  4. As cops love to throw out to people "What do you have to hide? If you aren't doing anything wrong it shouldn't matter if you are being recorded." By their own standards, they are up to shady shit and they know it.

  5. Let's get the cops address and disable their home cameras. Warrant or not, that would be wrong wouldn't it? Two catch alls for crooked cops are officer safety and obstruction. If all these cops are so scared they should resign.

  6. That is really scary to see. Immediately I think they are trying to cover something up & I would be afraid to open my door. Yes, I also noticed him putting on gloves so his prints wouldn't be on anything. It was the gloves that scared the s*** out of me too.

  7. Seriously, if "officer safety" is the catch-all excuse for this, and other things that law enforcement do to violate people's rights, then we really need to consider the "necessity" for law enFORCEment. None of us have any guarantees of safety (police are not obligated to protect us, even in an active act of violence against us, after all [i.e. Uvalde]). So what entitles agents of the government to such guarantees?
"Officer safety" is like an old, worn out, stretched, and ugly tee-shirt that smells really bad.
A rather unpopular YouTube channel recently covered how nearly impossible it is to obtain police bodycam footage, yet, with the scribble of a judge's signature, law enforcement can practically live a person's life vicariously through THEIR personal recordings; even when no crime has been committed. Blessings to decent officers out there, trying to do what is right, but c'mon now. Corrupt officers can CREATE "exigent circumstances" in order to destroy, or even end, someone's life.
This is the "necessity," and the absurdity created by a system that is psychotic, and dangerous. With these two quotes I end my plea to us all to awaken to what is happening to us through an exponentially insane system:

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."
    ~William Pitt The Younger

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”  ~Voltaire

  8. Yes, a reasonable person would believe that except in the case where there was probable cause to believe that the occupants were armed and dangerous due to the nature of the warrant, the policy (not law) of tampering with someone's camera should be a violation of rights.

  9. So what happens when these jackasses leave and someone comes through and commits a serious crime but the video was covered up and didn’t catch the criminal act? Like what the fuck don’t touch the cameras. Your safety doesn’t override mines.

  10. If you fear for your safety then do the logical thing and get backup and equipment. If you feel safe enough to issue a warrant when the camera isn’t facing you then you are safe enough when it is.

  11. It almost seemed like he was looking for cameras to disable. It looked like he spotted one then backed up. I know people might say he was looking for an address but I question that.

  12. That’s why mine are very high and have no wires they can cut!! Everyone should do the same. Even if you have to put a pole in the ground to make it higher!! We need protection from the police!!!
