    I mean… technically, this whole audit thing is structured on baiting… you chum up the waters.. wait for someone to take the bait.. then see if they get hooked… if they do, you file your complaints or lawsuits.

    Funny how when officers clearly make a mistake they will not fess up but rather attempt to pass off their error as somehow your fault for being lawful in your actions..
    They absolutely hate having their authority questioned and worse yet limited…
    I think we need to investigate whether badges worn by officers somehow let's off a chemical reaction to their brains that causes stupidity..

    You should have told him to call the city attorney. City attorney MAY know the law, however his LT may NOT. Cops don't automatically understand the law just because they have spent more time on the force.

    I mean, this is bad BUT the fact that the officer had a doubt and actually called to confirmed is kinda where I'd like to see things go. Like police will not go straight to being good.

    My only recommendation would be to have lawyers on call to actually advise them. Like if it was mandatory for officers to confirm with a lawyer on the premise of what happened and what the laws are when a citizen "challenges" them or something. IDK some safeguard

    Many cops do not understand what public property is. They think the county is private property somehow it's not it's the public property and you should be able to go on there and do what you want as long as you're not breaking the laws.

    Just for the record there are some jurisdictions where a distinction between publicly owned and publicly accessible is drawn, and you can still trespass on publicly owned but not publicly accessible spaces.

    The squad car (not the SUV) looks like it may be a K-9 unit by the back window slotted coverings…and if the K-9 is in the vehicle by law the A/C must be on. This often necessitates leaving the engine idling.
    Not saying that's what happened here; but it is a valid reason to keep that vehicle idling.
