Number two, obey the rules of the road. But if you do get pulled over. politely answer the cops questions and he'll either let you go or give you a ticket. Either way, you're not in cuffs.
I know many cops and I can tell you that is not their goal. Pulling you over means paperwork and just like the rest of us, cops don't enjoy wasting time on meaningless paperwork. If a cop pulls you over it is because he or she believes you are a danger to those around you.
I would say do this IF you have nothing to hide or potentially get arrested legitimately for. If it's a Saturday afternoon, you have no outstanding warrants… Go for it. If you cannot afford to spend the night in jail, I suggest you do whatever you need to get out of the situation and go home. The only way this works as an act of protest is if the police actually end up wasting their time and get no conviction out of the interaction. Otherwise we'd be kind of just reinforcing the idea that stopping and harassing random people actually fights crime. Be smart, and act accordingly.
Don't forget about the 6th amendment. If you wish to uphold your fifth amendment right, the cops can still ask you questions, but you don't have to answer. If you wish to uphold your sixth amendment rights, the cops can still ask you questions but if you mess up and answer nothing is admissible in court.
