In my state, you can't use those license plate surrounds that dealers sometimes put on cars as they obscure the plate partially. I got pulled over for a completely clear back plate cover under the same law. I had it because my states plates are low quality and delaminate over time & I was trying to make it last longer because replacement cost is on me.
Lucky I didn't get a ticket, based on what the cop said that night(he didn't even run my license), he was just seeing if I was a local kid out messing about at 1am(I was on break from work). I called the local PD the next day and complained, of course the cop I spoke to later tried to justify the stop.
My cousin is a Sheriff in Texas and on my way to visit him in 2019 my wife already there, i was pulled over by one of his Deputies who immediately and aggressively accused me of two Traffic Violations filming the interaction i noted his Bodycam was NOT switched on.He then wrenched open my car door claiming he could smell Cannabis which was a definite lie, realizing this was a probable Texas Hustle( an Shakedown) i phoned my cousin who was at home awaiting me during this the deputy tried to snatch my phone but the call was made.Then i was arrested for resisting arrest and peace officer ,handcuffed very tightly and secured in the back of the sheriff vehicle.Then my cousin and my wife arrived then two more deputies and a cavalcade of cars went to City Hall where after a thorough investigation a dishonest deputy was suspended from duty,prosecuted and is now serving 7-10yrs in the State Pen in the "Beast Block" where he has already been assaulted twice.

It is past time that it is a legal requirement during a traffic stop and there is no real threat that the officer to clearly state the reason and evidence for the stop. This should be the only evidence that the cops can rely on in court. Allowing police to make up charges after a traffic stop has been totally abused and has to stop. Same with smelling weed , totally abused .
