If you watch videos of cops arresting cops they even tell their blue line brothers they are arresting to shut up and don't answer questions but when a citizen does it its disrespectful.
I know it's VERY different in USA. But in Australia, especially rural areas, it's not uncommon when pulled over for the cop to make small talk. It's not to "breakdown mental defenses", it's simply friendly, no ulterior motive. I find the differences in approach by each police force unnerving.

I'm a pretty tough critic on the cops, I'm usually harsher on most of them than you yourself are allowed to be on this platform. BUT, this guy's not striking me as a bad cop with an ego in any way. Quite the opposite here, his ego is openly on public display fully deflated and begging for a boost from any pump he can find. There was honesty and humility there. He's obviously not a highly intelligent individual thinking big thoughts, he's just an average Joe trying to do a job.

Listen man. Cops are trained to get you to talk. They will get you to talk with the slightest of everyday questions. Their goal is to get your guard down. As soon as they do… THEN they will ask incriminating questions
Everyone has the right to choose whether or not they want to answer any question. If the person asking the question feels disrespected, then that's their problem. He's just using his authority to get you to comply.

Although this cop seemed to be "good" he was going to use his authority to retaliate against them for asserting their right to remain silent. While he is not as bad as most cops we see on YouTube he is a tyrant, if he wants the respect of the people then he needs to earn it! During a traffic stop, you are required to present your DL, proof of insurance, and registration. You are not required to answer any questions or to speak at all. The 3 items that I mentioned are all that you are required to do. You do not have to chit chat with any cop. If he persists in asking questions, then plainly say, " I am invoking my 5th Amendment Right to remain silent. At that point, he can't force you to answer any questions without violating you civil rights. But make sure that it's recorded that you invoked your 5th.
