In the state of Indiana, a driver is NEVER required to give proof of insurance to a police officer. Under Indiana law, proof of insurance is only required to be given to the BMV and it cannot be given by the person insured but must be given by the insurance company. If it comes from anyone other than the insurance company, it is legally not proof of insurance or financial responsibility.
