One of the biggest problems with law enforcement, especially without a supervisor on scene is that none of them have rank over each other so the outcome is based always on whichever cop is the most poorly trained and aggressive! One cop can be doing a good or at least decent job at containing a situation and another will show up with no clue whats even going on and immediately escalate the situation and then all cops in scene will jump on in into the escalated scene even though they just saw their own officer cause it!

This is so frustrating. When I was a sophomore in high school in 2004ish a friend of friends was tased to death outside of a local concert venue. The guy was 19 and had recently graduated high school and had taken some LSD at a show and was outside having a bad trip when two officers confronted him and tased him over 13 times until he died. The officers were protected from liability and didn't get so much as a demotion or unpaid leave. His poor father tried for years to get some justice for him all to no avail.
The episode was in or around spring 2004 in Nashville, TN and nothing has changed. Our police force routinely uses dehumanizing and egregious force and yet they wonder why they've lost so much of the public's respect? It would be heartbreaking if it weren't so infuriating. End qualified immunity now!
Sister inlaw worked in mental hospital until this Republican state closed them all. In twenty years no patient ever got tased, let alone tasered to death. Just sayin'

de-escalation is a foreign concept to american police. Anything other than immediate compliance to their demands will result in aggression and them going on the offensive.. Then of course you can be "too compliant" which makes you suspicious and means you're clearly hiding something! It really seems like the only thing they're interested in is building a case.. Everyone is a criminal. They "know" it and they'll misconstrue everything you say and do into something that helps them build a case.
