  1. I had a cop come to by door, it was a few yes/no questions and on the way he went. Telling them as the renter your name or the landlord telling them your name is the same end goal. They wanted to know who you were and they got it one way or another.

Would I let them into the house, no. But could I answer yes and no questions? Yes. If I didn't think they were cops I would call non emergency and find out. Again you can have right and not be an arse about it.

I had someone looking for a bail skip and my address came up. Being an arse and zip tight would have caused further problems. Within 10 mins it was sorted that this woman put my address down randomly as a place of residence. I asked for a report number and when the bail agencies showed to re-verify I was able to send them to the cops with a incident number and never heard from them again. Now imagine that mess had I ignored the officers and was an arse.

Just saying read the situation. If they have your name, or asking time and place location questions then sure say nothing and lawyer up. But who are you, and do you live here is not a damning question if its up and up. By getting the landlord involved guess what, they got that question answered and not from a lawyer either.

  2. I’m quite mesmerised watching all the interactions of police and the citizens, police is meant for the people and not against them, I understand that that statement is quite not the reality in the real world but in the US or so places, police is all guns towards the citizens or rather arresting them for minuscule things which were utterly childish or just tackling and breaking body parts… sigh…
And after all this, all they’re facing is a 30-day paid vacation or are able to resign without any charges… marvellous.

  3. No person can be compelled to help the police. Nor are you under any obligation to prove to them that you're innocent. The default is innocent, and its up to them to prove otherwise. Never help them to do that by talking to them.

BTW, the audacity of that cop asking who else is in the house. I would have told him, that' s none of you business who's in my house. Unless you are knowingly harboring a fugitive. In that case, they'd need to see him, or get a warrant.
