LAPD – In Custody Death 8/14/2020

Warning – Graphic Content

While I am mildly pleased with the LAPD for releasing this footage to the public, it still concerns me that they do not make ALL of the footage available. It was certainly interesting to hear the squabbling between the officers that were handling the suspect, and the ones standing by to watch.
However, the edited footage prior to release makes me suspicious of what was said or done during the redacted portions. I would much rather have full access to the hours of bodycam footage that was taken during this incident so we can watch it from all angles and make our own conclusions.

I certainly don’t blame the LAPD for this death after reviewing the footage, but it does raise concerns that an EMT-Basic license isn’t required to wear the badge. The EMT-B is a 6 month course that would allow all members on scene to render basic emergency treatment. It is required for all LAFD personnel, why not LAPD? Especially considering the amount of bodily harm the cause during the course of their duties, intentional or unintentional.

  1. If he was breaking into a complete strangers home in broad daylight I would guess it was pcp. Complete cardiac arrest, lapd did all they could and treated the guy with a reasonable amount of respect.

  2. The coroner's report found no sign of asphyxiation and concluded that Daniel Rivera died from cardiac arrest as a result of meth and police restraint methods. Rivera had an enlarged heart as a pre-existing condition. His family is suing the police.

  3. Saying he died in police custody, while technically true, is like saying someone who died of a brain hemorrhage with covid symptoms died because of covid. He was going to die anyways. Maybe if he had climbed over the fence and not gone into the gully and laid down in that cesspool, maybe it would have gone differently?

  4. It takes drugs time to hit the body. So when the guy initially took the rest of the drugs he had on him which he probably did in the ditch, he was able to fight the cops off and he started overdosing around the 15min mark. You can't blame police for an overdose.

  5. I saw no medical treatment at all. Like even a child would know to give someone water if he's not feeling well. The bodycam footage of that specific officer was the only one that even tried to pump his heart the others priority was to keep uniform clean … but i doubt they could actually save a life. Like 10 people there and no one had a clue to splash some water on him and keep his legs up so gravity could pump extra blood into the upper body. Na lets just talk amongst ourselves until someone else arrives.

We all know by now most cops don't give a fuck about anything but the paycheck.

  6. It always sucks when people die, but after my investigation I've come to the conclusion that this waste of life drug addict was the cause of his own demise. I'm against all bad cops, but none were present during this apprehension.

  7. This person was electrocuted by taser. The taser wires are clearly be seen at 13:11 and on, connected to his jeans, wet area, on his left upper leg in the back packet area, the wires are hanging towards to one of the officers. In fact, the wires can be seen much earlier. He was crying because of the electricity going through his body, not for refusing the handcuffs. High voltage, wet area, and continuously electrocution, killed him. This is a police brutality/murder case!!!

  8. Idk bout y'all but umm I don't see how they could've done anything differently. The guy was clearly way way out there and od. Which is very very sad thing to happen . I do believe the medics should ve worked and done alot more way faster . They acted as if someone broke their arm or something. They didn't rush or do much of anything until he was basically dead. I feel the police should ve carried him up outta there for the medics and ambulance seeing as they was so many enough to carry him. Then he may of survived .But still drugs killed this man. I'm a survivor of all kinds of drugs. Been clean since 2014 and I've lost many friends to Od. And it's very very sad to see. But just cause the cops or medics didn't do everything right doesn't mean they killed this man.

  9. I don’t get it. We don’t want police and we govern ourselves. But if this did broke into my house I’d probably shoot him…. but that would be ok but when police chase a suspect it’s they’re murders?! I didn’t see much brutality there.

  10. It's the guy who tased him , he kept on tasing him and eventually died. That's why he was so tensed and couldn't relax. For the electricity going through his body

  11. The cops did not act in a manner worthy of retribution they did there jobs. The paramedics however seemed negligent and the ones that could have don better, however the only person to blame here is the idiot that took to much meth

  12. Man if officers really gave a fuck about there suspect this man probably would've live but instead they're sitting around finger popping each other assholes. Making jokes laughing theres 6 fucking officers and your telling me they couldn't of carried this man up the hill. There to worried about fucking worms and making jokes about meth. This whole thing irritates the fuck out of me because I really want become a good police officer but if I work with bitch ass police officers like this I would be fired with in the first week because I'm not standing for bullshit like this. Serve and protect is what your suppose to be doing but instead your joking and laughing, complaining about mud and worm. LA finest my ass

  13. frame 10:41, an officer mentions the "shoulder" blade because he sees the problem for what its worth; the anatomy. officers are pulling up, when the arm needs to move to the top left of the frame, or a swimming motion, or extend his arm out like an angel wing. done fucked up fighting each other.

  14. How is it okay that the police department that has death in custody, investigates itself 😂 shouldnt there be an objective eyed independent non-governmental agency with no bias that investigates this. Clearly government agencies have a tendency to protect themselves with their code of silence
