Those cops in Alexandria, Louisiana are racist scumbags who had NO valid reasons to pull them over. They figured that they could take advantage of them. Those officers should be fired! They were wrong on so many levels. I also consider the source. We are talking about law enforcement from the deep south where there are many hicks. A lot of times they make up the rules as they see fit.

"in good faith?" I laughed. These two have been violating people for long enough that it's become 'olde hat' for them.
1) Record every encounter. If possible, use multiple devices.
2) Never talk to police. There is no such thing as a 'casual conversation'. Remember they can legally lie to you.
3) Never consent to any searches of any kind. A search can only hurt you, and likely damage your property.
4) Remember that you must assert your rights verbally, (and as calmly as you're able).
4th "I do not consent to searches." 5th "I'm going to remain silent" or "I don't answer questions"
5) Know your limits in advance. Are you willing to endure a false arrest to push the issue in court? Perhaps you're willing to push the issue up to the point they say, 'do this or be arrested'. Make sure you get it all on video.
It's important to understand the variations of statutes as they apply to you in your state. ie: In some states it may be in a department's policy that LEOs ID themselves. In Wa state it's in the same statute that requires motorists ID during a traffic stop.
In some states hindering or obstruction requires a physical component, in others those offenses do not.
Some general concepts and case law to be aware of / research:
RAS = Reasonable Articulatable Suspicion
PC = Probable Cause
Terry v. Ohio
US v Mendenhall (There's a more recent case but I can't recall)
