To all the commenters who are saying we need police, no we don't need military-style police. The word police stands for policy enforcement. What we need is a return to peace officers, who protect people's property and rights. Who know the law instead of policy. Most policy involves revenue collection and violation of rights. To protect these rights (life, liberty, and property) governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers to govern by the consent of the governed. And when governments become destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to abolish it and form a new government. Do we need law and order? Yes. Should we have people who are there to protect rights and property and law & order? Yes. But there is a difference between a peace officer who does that and a paramilitary policy enforcer whose sole purpose is to collect revenue, violating people's rights, intimidate people and steal their property. They should be held accountable for maintaining standards of law even when the person they are interacting with is not fully educated in law and rights. They should not be allowed to prey upon people who are weak or uneducated. It's like a doctor being allowed to kill a patient just because the patient doesn't know biology or medicine. Absurd.
Let's talk about right to travel versus "license to drive". One is a fundamental right and the very definition of Liberty itself. The other is an act of commerce requiring a permission slip from government in order to exercise a privilege. Until Americans get that, and the fact that they are not US citizens, true Liberty will not exist in America.
