We need someone to post exactly where we need to voice our support for the defendant and our disdain for the Blount County Police Department
I watched the dashcam video many times over and every single time I have to take the defendants side. That was a Terry Stop and those officers should have issued a ticket and let Mr. Dehart (🤔 I think I got that right) go on his way. They however never intended on following the very law that they "swore to uphold" , instead opting to treat this motorist as if he were mere dog shit on the heel of their shoe, proceeding to treat the licensed and insured motorist like they had warrants issued by a grand jury for his arrest prior to the vehicle stop that brought us all to where we are now, which they did not have. Moving past that major hurdle, the cop that was killed gave Mr. Dehart very little recourse as this cop was about to kill the defendant via means of electrocution and the man was justifiably in fear for his life. Nothing that these officers did during this traffic stop gave the defendant any reason to trust their intentions towards himself and anyone who watched that whole shit show would be a complete F-ing liar if they state otherwise. This is just another case of cops overstepping their bounds and doing so with a serious cavalier attitude towards their own culpability as far as abiding to the very laws that they enforce on the public while fully believing that they themselves are far above such reproach.

Is a cop different mentally from a soldier—follow orders, do as instructed? Police may have more freedom in terms of quitting, but is the overall government dictatorship the same in both jobs?

I saw the traffic stop on another video. The guy was a felon and had a gun and that is why he was talking so much which the cop picked up on. So if he co-operated he was going to prison. To try and get away from 2 cops by shooting at them after you have given them your licence is dumb. Even with a good lawyer he is going to prison for life just based on the video evidence.

Military service is vastly different than a policeman's job in that citizens were drafted and those who enlisted were mostly under-educated joining as a last resort having no prior work experience or idea what they were getting into ..! (A job,3 meals daily and housing!)
In the military, (After getting off the bus) everyone is stuck with 4 to 6 years of crappy jobs! (VETERANS UNDERSTAND!)
Most enlistees had nothing before joining the military and usually had less coming out of the military. Not many join the military to learn a civilian trade because there aren't many military trades that pay a livable wage in civilian life … (Don't tell me how to mop I was in the Navy!)
Now you understand why multitudes of military people are hired as police officers and happy to have any job that's willing to pay them a livable wage!

The police have no obligation to the people, to protect and serve! The Supreme Court ruled that cops do not have a (Constitutional duty) to protect a citizen from harm, ruling that "[t]he duty to provide public services is owed to the public at large, and, absent a special relationship between the police and an individual, no specific legal duty exists".
