The Mississippi Rifle made in West Virginia

Looking at an original M1841 Mississippi Rifle made in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. I explain why it’s called the “Mississippi Rifle,” and why it’s awesome. Did you know that Congress ordered the US Military to sell these state of the art rifles to civilians headed West?

  1. I’m a member of the Mississippi army national guard. I’m in a combat engineer unit, part of the 155th Brigade Combat Team. Our infantry battalion, 1/155 is the famous Mississippi Rifles, still going strong today 👍

  2. I have just came into possession of a Harpers Ferry Mississippi Rifle with an 1853 date. The bore measures .59-.60 on my Calipers. I can barely tell that there is rifling in the barrel. Is there a way for sure to tell if it’s a .58 rifle or a “smooth” bore shotgun. I’m new to this era of firearms and black powder. This was handed down to me by my grandmother and I don’t know much about it. Thanks for the video
