WV Deputy Arrested & Indicted by Feds – County Refused My FOIA for Body Cam

A West Virginia Deputy has been indicted by the feds. It just hit the news a few days ago. I figured there must be body cam footage of the incident, so I sent a FOIA request to the employer. I was holding off on discussing the case until I saw the footage. I’ve now received a response, and you’re not going to like it. Here’s what we know right now. Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lance Kuretza has been indicted in federal court for a felony civil rights violation after allegedly punching and pepper spraying a handcuffed suspect, as well as for attempting to cover-it-up by filing a false police report.

  1. A waste of time? I’ll have you know that because of your videos my fiancé, a new public defender and attorney, have learned a nuance that could be used in her job in at least 2 different occasions.

  2. In the county next to mine a prisoner supposedly caused a problem. The COs brought him down to the intake area and handcuffed him to a bench. A few moments later the commander came in on a mission. The three or four COs in the room vanished. The commander proceeded to punch the chained prisoner in the face . It was all caught on security camera . The next day the commander went to the state capital to receive "Jailer of the year" award. The next day he retired . It was months later that the video made it's way through the internet. People demanded action. It went to the county DAs off and his response was "It's not like he broke any of his bones " . People then went to the state to take action. They ignored it. I don't know the time frame but after enough public pressure the state investigated . The commander was arrested and tried. He received ten years in state prison. By the way, the people of that county then went on to elect that Constitutional Rights hating DA to be the county judge . Throw the book at anyone involved in the cover up . Sadly, the roided out cop will end up with a hand slap and a pension

  3. 🤔 it seems to me that if the state prosecutor has elected to not prosecute I really can’t see any reason for prosecutorial immunity to apply. He’s not prosecuting, why can’t a shoplifter just assert prosecutorial immunity, he’s not prosecuting either?
