We must petition our lawmakers to make violations of rights, even those a court would rule de minimis, very expensive for the perpetrator. There are laws that make simply exceeding the speed limit expensive on drivers; the reverse should also be true, the hefty fine payable directly from the official who violates a person's rights to the person whose rights are violated. The least fine should be US$500; higher fines for more serious violations. I know, "Wake up, you're dreaming!"
