Then the local sheriff arrives, apparently embarrassed by the fact that the hired hackers were able to just walk right in an unlocked door in the middle of the night, and angry that he wasn’t informed of the security testing ordered by the state. So instead of releasing them, he orders handcuffs put on them and has them taken to the county jail and charged with burglary.
Then it gets even worse. The bureaucrats at the state judicial branch then get worried about their own jobs, and they attempt to throw the hackers they hired under the bus, initially claiming they did not authorize the “burglary,” even though they did. Eventually the State Supreme Court admits they hired the hackers and apologized for the confusion.
But the county still wanted to prosecute the two innocent hackers, who were caught in the middle of this government power struggle. Even up through the day before trial, the county prosecutor was refusing to drop the charges. He finally had to though, because they were innocent. So then the two hackers filed a civil lawsuit, which took years to litigate. Now, that just settled, with the two hackers receiving $600,000 from the county for their false arrest and malicious prosecution.
This is an absolutely insane story out of Iowa.

This is truly scary! I can’t believe a state would do this. It’s absolutely crazy!
I wouldn't stop at one lawsuit. I would sue every agency
Lost interest early
Trying to put innocent people in prison? Sounds like attempted kidnapping to me. Everyone responsible deserves the death penalty.
Because of this petty political turf war, the security of Iowa's government facilities is now extremely weak and vulnerable to any number of different kinds of breaches by bad actors. Way to go, morons! smh
I been telling my 2 DUI story for years now. Got 2 and wasn't driving for either, wasn't even in the car for the 2nd one. Now I got this Ajovy killing me and no Civil rights attorny to help, think I'm going psycho or something. Docs are saying i'm not having ny symptoms and leaving me in the patient room for hours unattended in a wheelchair to the point i have to call the office reception to get out of the room and they dont believe i have any sysmtoms even though ive been to the hospital. and my pcp keeps prescribing me ,eds that can have a reaction with the reaction i'm alrady having (allergic autoimmune) which is fucking stupid. i had to switch pcp's and file a compaint and now i cant get meds on time. nobodys giving me treatment cause they dont believe i have sympoms and its driving me nuts. ajovy has a 30 day life, 30 day half life ad 30 dat quarter life and i'm still in the first 30 days. I may nt make another 60+
This why I don't care trust law enforcement they leaking out personal information that shouldn't be trusted
This is one crazy ass story! But i seriously want this job! I'm sure they hear that all the time but feel like i would be good at that lol and I'm a super fast learner
Small town, small brains.
The sheriff said they looked like "ninjas" or bank robbers". Ninjas breaking into an iowa courthouse seems reasonable. 😂
Everyone involved with the scandal should be locked up, it only the hired burglars, everyone involved with the entire contract.
Ooh, what do we have here? A conspiracy theory? No, the government would never contract with burglars and thieves 🤔
7:09 he doesn’t know how stupid he looks? I’m off this can’t watch this one 1️⃣
These hackers are doing more for public safety than the police department. That is the real problem here, professional jealousy.
Citizens of Dallas Co. and Iowa should be mortified and ticked over the sheriff making an ordeal over this just bc he's butt hurt! We need this kind of work to be done. I've had my information stolen from a state department, anyone else?
That’s a wierd one.
Maybe burglars should go to jail.
ESPECIALLY if the government hired them…
Thank goodness they kept the paperwork!
It makes no sense to work for the government. Especially a hacking contract.
The facts wasn't out because the sheriff is a lying piece of shit himself and should be put to death for trying to send innocent citizens to prison for doing their jobs and the DA should be right beside him. And the cowards at the state level that tried to bail out on their employment should be put to death as well
These hackers got what they deserved for this whole hair brained scheme, but I'm happy to see them get paid by the crime cartel state
I mean this gay looking guy is pretty weird! Like how weird, how do I address you? I would say SIR! No matter what. You are a sir
that sheriff needs to arrest Trump and his fascist regime.
As someone who has lived in Iowa for most of my life unfortunately I'm not sure which part of this video is least surprising. The sheriff with the "This is my courthouse" attitude, or the complete botch job start to finish from the state officials.
Sounds like the FBI needs to investigate the entire state.
41:55 the fools in the state thinking they could just erase a contract that they had with a cyber security contractor is wild.
THOSE PEOPLE NEED REPLACED IMMEDIATELY
That Sheriff should be charged!
Awesom coverage & very educational. This is something that people, Including myself don't realize about protecting our Security. Disappointed in the state, sheriff, & DA. Hopefully the situation will be corrected to prevent future idiocracy.
seems like the sheriff needs to be let go,
such authoritarian prolonged adolescence
does not serve public safety…
This is truly sad. Another corrupt government unit.
